New, Targeted Pain Medicine Delivery Systems May Reduce Costs Long Term; Cost To Treat Pain Varies Significantly By Chronic Pain Condition
Estimates of pain care treatment costs exceed $1 billion annually in the United States. Today at the American Academy of Pain Medicine's 26th Annual Meeting two abstracts looked at the issue. One evaluated intrathecal drug delivery (a targeted medicine delivery system) that could save costs over time. The other analyzed the differences between the costs of treatment for chronic pain treatments. In the first abstract, Scott Guillemette from Ingenix Consulting analyzed costs for intrathecal drug delivery (IDD). The implantable neuromodulatory device, which delivers medicine directly to the spinal cord, was used to treat pain patients suffering from Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS).
What is the rotator cuff? It is a group of four tendons and muscles which form the shoulder joint. When this body part gets injured, it is the tendons that are actually injured. These are the tendons that connect the muscles of the cuff to the bone. When these tendons tear or become inflamed, they cannot function correctly. A cuff tear is a common cause of pain and disability among adults. Most tears occur in the supraspinatus muscle, but other parts of the cuff may be involved. What are the causes and symptoms of a torn rotator cuff? This cuff helps to stabilize your shoulder joint and allows you to lift and rotate your arm. It is made up of four muscles and their tendons.
Phosphagenics Limited ("Phosphagenics") (ASX: POH; OTCQX: PPGNY) today announced positive results from a Phase 1B clinical study using the Company's patented TPM™ (Targeted Penetration Matrix) for the transdermal delivery of oxycodone. The results of the successful trial demonstrate that daily application of a TPM™ patch delivers therapeutic levels of oxycodone into the blood stream in a reproducible, consistent and sustained manner. "The ability to reach therapeutic oxycodone plasma concentrations from a transdermal patch is a major achievement and the sustained drug profile appears very suitable for chronic pain management, " said Professor Guy Ludbrook, Principal Investigator for the study and Head of Discipline, Anaesthesia & Intensive Care, at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
If there is such a thing as good news about hemorrhoids, it is that in most cases, while they appear spontaneously, they will also disappear on their own. In some cases though, specifically internal hemorrhoids, thrombosed hemorrhoids, prolapsed hemorrhoids, or in persistent or recurring cases, surgery for hemorrhoids may be required. There are a variety of types of surgery, and some of these include: Hemorrhoidectomy - this is a procedure whereby internal or external hemorrhoids are excised by scalpel or cauterization. Laser Coagulation - a special laser is used to coagulate and shrink the vein that is causing the hemorrhoid. Infrared Coagulation - similar to laser coagulation, in this procedure, an infrared light source is used to shrink and treat the hemorrhoid.

If you are suffering from piles or hemorrhoids, chances are you are looking for natural hem relief that can work for you. Here are a few ideas for treatment that might work for you: Try a natural laxative, like prunes. Often, hemorrhoids are a symptom of constipation. Abnormal straining when visiting the toilet leads to the blood vessels that distend. Therefore, it makes sense that if you add a laxative to the mix, you will avoid the problem, or at least prevent it from becoming too bad. On the same note, you should watch your diet and lifestyle in general, when looking for natural relief. Eating a high fiber diet, drinking lots of water, and exercising can go a long way to the prevention.
