Testosterone - The New Fountain Of Youth For Women - Better Bones, Better Body, Better Sex!

Testosterone has gotten a bad rap over the years. It is blamed for violence, bad attitudes, crime, wars, and hair loss just to name a few. Women may also associate unwanted facial hair, a deep unfeminine sounding voice, and bulky muscles with testosterone.

It is true, high levels of the so-called male hormone are not healthy for a woman, but unnaturally high levels are rare. Levels high enough to cause the effects women fear can usually only be achieve through injection or some other unnaturally means of increasing testosterone.

However the most common problem women have with testosterone is they don't have enough.

First let's look at the benefits of testosterone. Testosterone gives us (both males and females) drive and determination. It fuels our feelings of motivation, assertiveness and sense of power. It increases our sense of well being, enhances our sex drive and gives us the ability to take risks. It gives zip and zest to our lives. It gives us personality.

In addition to improving our mood and our ability to deal with stress, testosterone has powerful anti-aging effects. It keeps our skin supple, increases fat burning, muscle development and bone density.

Low levels of this powerful hormone are associated with heart disease, Alzheimer's, osteoporosis (loss of bone density) and depression. A common symptom of low testosterone in women is they feel like they are freezing cold most of the time (that is, provided their thyroid levels are normal).

Women don't need a lot of testosterone to enjoy the benefits of increased attractiveness; a better figure; increased energy; a better outlook on life and zeal for living; and clearer thinking. Not to mention enhanced sex appeal and greater interest in and enjoyment of sex.

A woman's testosterone level peaks in her twenties. Then over time continues to decrease. By the time she reaches natural menopause, she may have only half the amount she had at her peak. This decrease is made even worse by the use of oral contraceptives during her fertile years. Oral contraceptives interfere with all sex hormone production (testosterone, estrogen and progesterone).

Since the Women's Health Initiative study revealed many health risks associated with hormone replacement therapy (HRT), women have genuine concerns about using any kind of supplemental hormones. And if she does decide to use supplemental estrogen, she will be disappointed with its failure to increase her muscle tone, clear her thinking and boost her sex drive. Just some of the things that testosterone has been shown to improve.

The good new is new research shows increasing testosterone levels in women may provide protection to breast tissue in addition to its other benefits. This is especially true for postmenopausal women.

Other recent research showed when postmenopausal women were given supplemental testosterone they grew stronger bones and muscles, had significantly improved attitudes about life in general and enjoyed better sex--including increased desire, greater arousal and more pleasurable orgasms.

Perhaps even more exciting, it only requires a very small increase in testosterone levels for a woman to get these tremendous benefits. In the study the women received just a sixteenth of the standard male dose. But women don't have to use testosterone injections or patches to boost their natural testosterone levels. Studies have shown supplementing with 30mg of Zinc and 450mg of Magnesium per day can elevate natural testosterone levels up to 30%.
