Poetry Writing - Let Your Unconscious Mind Help
A good way to get a powerful emotional response from people is through poetry. In order to write poetry, you need to be able to connect with your readers and offer them images and ideals that have meaning for them. Here is a powerful technique that you can use to write good poetry easily and effortlessly.
Use the following techniques to empower your imagination, connect with your readers and present your ideals in an effective way.
1. Determine a premise or concept you wish to explore.
2. Brainstorm similar and unsimiliar ideals
3. Connect with your targeted audience.
4. Turn over to your unconscious mind.
5. Take a break
6. Write your poem.
Finding a premise is the easiest part of poetry writing. In order to do this, just decide what you want people to learn or understand. If you want them to see love in a new way, or to face the harsh concepts of war or look deep within to improve themselves...you need only to decide on a concept that will accomplish that goal.
Next, you need to brainstorm that concept in order to get an organized sense of what you want to say. Without really thinking about it, jot down (or type) a number of phrases, ideas or words related to your concept. When you run out of ideals connected to your premise, just randomly jot down other ideas, concepts and words. Look for things that don't have any obvious connections to your idea. The point of this step is to challenge your conscious and unconscious mind to find new ways to connect and view your concept.
Once you have finished with brainstorming the next step is to connect to your audience. At this point, put your list of words, phrases and ideas to the side and just close your eyes and relax. Allow yourself to imagine being one of your audience...try to imagine how you would feel about or idea. Put yourself in their role so you can write poetry they understand. Take your time with this, and really allow yourself to imagine being them, seeing from their point of view, feeling what they feel. As you find yourself entering their mindset, you will find it easy to write poetry that they can respond to and feel.
Now, you want to engage your subconscious mind. Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to relax as completely as possible. Ask your mind to provide you with the words, ideas and concepts in a way that will allow you to write a quality poem. Relax and mentally visualize what you want...which is a good poem.
Imagine reading the poem and enjoying what you wrote. Tell your subconscious mind that your goal is to produce a nice poem and ask it to give you the words you need to accomplish your task. Do this for several minutes. At some point you will feel "Ready" to move on. At this point just wake yourself up.
The next step is simple. Walk away. Take a walk, clean up, cook, or just about anything that gets your mind away from the poem. This works much like the "Eureka" concept. The better you can take your mind off the poem at this point the easier it will be to write later.
Take thirty minutes to an hour to cool off and focus on other things before you sit down to write your poem. At this point just allow the ideas to flow from your mind. Let the words come at their own pace...there is no rush to write the poem or finish the poem. Write until you feel that you have accomplished as much as you can...if you have finished your poem, congratulations, if not then rest a while and then use the same methods to complete the poem.
