Now, during the teenage years, when hormone levels are at a peek, the glands make too much sebum, and thus, we get acne problems. So really, acne is not linked so much with not washing your face, but more with your hormones. That is why when girls take birth control pills (which affect their hormone levels), they can actually watch their acne clear up. In fact, many doctors say that birth control is a great acne treatment.
