The Importance of Search Engine Marketing
First let's begin this by defining what Search Engine Marketing is. Sometimes you will hear this being called SEO as well, which I will sometimes refer to it as in this article.
SEO is a way to increase volume and quality traffic to a website using a search engine. However, it is not the same as Pay Per Click advertising, which the website owner pays for.
SEO is free advertising that shows up in the search engines. The way to get a website to show up in the free advertising on a search engine is through good keyword customization for a website.
Let's take a comparison of Pay Per Click (PPC) and SEO using Google. If you do a search for "cats" there will be PPC advertising on the right, which the most PPC ads per page on Google will be 8. The first ad showing on the right will be paying the most money.
On the left are the non-paid results, and there will be multiple pages of results depending on your search term. Websites that are popular and use good keyword optimization strategies will be listed on the first page, or possibly in the first position.
More than likely, a person will click on results from the first page and website owners don't usually know this.
So if you do not have the money to pay for PPC, it is highly important to focus on SEO and keyword strategies to get your website listed in the free results on a search engine. If you are not familiar with SEO tactics, there are many people that work solely on SEO marketing for websites and could help.
