Higher Gas Prices Mean More Consumers Going Online to Shop

Gas prices are rising faster than the summer temperature. Those are two good reasons to take your shopping online instead of driving to a store. Soaring gas prices are changing the way America shops. A recent Harris Interactive survey indicates that 33 percent of US adults say they are more likely to shop online than in person.

Shoppers are starting up their computers instead of the cars or trucks

The convenience of being able to shop anytime day or night is an appeal that is nearly equal to the choice to shop online rather than driving to a store. Many times, shoppers find incentives when shopping online, such as free shipping and lower prices.

A poll by ABC News said that consumers are not only irritated with higher gas prices, they are downright angry. As prices approach and exceed $4.00 a gallon, Americans are doing less and less driving. But, Americans still love to shop. Web purchases were on the rise even before the gas prices and this trend doesn't look to be ending any time soon. The rising gas prices has served to increase this trend more rapidly than predictions indicated a few months ago.

Hooked on online shopping

Once people break the ice and buy one item online, they find it much easier to buy other items via the Internet. The truth is out. Online retailers can be trusted. Because of the simplicity and convenience, many of these shoppers are finding it difficult to go back to their brick and mortar store to purchase what they can get online.

E-commerce sites need to be ready for the rising trends in online shopping. They need to be alert to the fact that consumers are looking for more and more ways to save money by changing where they shop and they way they shop. Check with your hosting provider to make certain you can handle the upsurge in online spending.

Shopping differently

Just because people are shopping online to save money, do not think for a moment they are spending less. Consumers will spend the same amount whether they drive to a store or if they find what they want online. In fact, with many retailers offering lower prices for online purchases because they don't have to cover the expense of a brick and mortar site. That is good new for consumers who will get more value for their dollar.

Indicators are that more than 69% of consumers will shop online when making purchases for everything from food to refrigerators. If you are an online retailer, make sure your site is properly optimized, easy to navigate and a pleasure for shoppers to visit. By updating and/or upgrading your e-commerce site, you will be ready for the increased revenue.
