A small but significant proportion of morbidly obese people are missing a section of their DNA, according to research published in Nature. The authors of the study, from Imperial College London and ten other European Centres, say that missing DNA such as that identified in this research may be having a dramatic effect on some people's weight. According to the new findings, around seven in every thousand morbidly obese people are missing a part of their DNA, containing approximately 30 genes. The researchers did not find this kind of genetic variation in any normal weight people. There are an estimated 700, 000 morbidly obese people in England, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 40.

Although obesity is a risk factor for diabetes and coronary heart disease worldwide, only some obese individuals go on to develop these metabolic complications, while others are relatively protected. Defining these protective factors could help scientists prevent disease in the wider population. To this end, a research team at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, led by Suneil Koliwad, MD, PhD, recently added new details that link obesity to diabetes and heart disease. When individuals become obese from overeating, cells called adipocytes located in the fat tissue fill up with dietary fats and begin to die. Immune cells called macrophages move out of the blood stream and into this tissue, where they accumulate around dying adipocytes.

About one-third of adults with extreme obesity benefited after two years of an intensive medical management program conducted by primary care clinicians. Donna H. Ryan, M.D., of Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, La., and colleagues trained seven primary care physicians and one research clinic in obesity management. A group of 200 adults with extreme obesity (body mass index of higher than 40) were randomly assigned to participate in the intervention, which involved a short-term liquid diet, group behavioral counseling, a longer-term maintenance diet and one of several medications. After two years, 51 percent remained on the program, 31 percent lost 5 percent or more of their body weight and 7 percent lost 20 percent or more.
If you are looking to buy a treadmill for your home and considering the Sole F83 treadmill, you need to read this review before buying. I was looking to buy the perfect treadmill for my house too so I did some research and tests to see which one fits the bill. I do not own the Sole F83 treadmill but my sister does and I've tried using it many times. From what I see, this particular treadmill is perfect for my sister house which is small and doesn't have much space. It has a 20" x 58" running surface, smaller than most treadmills on the market which I think is much convenient for any apartment complexes. Featuring a powder coated all-steel welded frame and heavy duty stable incline, the Sole F83 is pretty heavy which gives you more stability and balance when jogging or running.
