Beating Ulcerative Colitis - Diet is Important

This article is entirely dedicated to all of the hundreds of thousands of people who have or will someday have Ulcerative Colitis. This is as well meant for family members, nurses, dare I say doctors, and anyone else who knows ordinary people who are dealing with Ulcerative Colitis too. Much of the website is based off of my personal experiences, feedback from family members, and real life medical records that I have accumulated in the previous months. My personal encounter with Ulcerative Colitis has led me to meet with 6 gastroentorologists(Mayo Clinic, Stanford, UCSF, PAMF, and some others), many more medical assistants, the MRI machine, more blood tests than I can count, medications of all types, and much more.

Still Time To Get H1N1 Flu Vaccine, Urges Whitley, Leader Of Infectious Diseases Society

With several months left in the influenza season and growing supplies of vaccine, now is an opportune time to get vaccinated against the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus, says Richard Whitley, M.D., director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and current president of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). The reminder comes during National Influenza Vaccination Week, Jan. 10-16, a time when health professionals nationwide urge everyone, including health-care workers, to protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated, if they haven't already. "Immunization is the best defense we have to prevent the spread of H1N1 influenza in the months ahead, " says Whitley, who serves in the 2009 H1N1 Influenza Working Group of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

Treatment of Angular Cheilitis

Treatment of angular cheilitis or the chapped and cracked mouth actually relies upon the cause of the infection, and the problem is that there are a lot of causes which may trigger this skin disease. The most common of them are chapped lips (can be both the symptom and the cause), ill-fitting dentures and vitamin deficiency. The other two are yeast infection or candida and bacterial infection or staph. If Cheilosis is caused due to vitamin deficiency, than the most effective treatment is to change ones diet to include more vitamin/mineral rich foods or taking nutritional supplements. Nevertheless before taking any medication it is important to visit a dermatologist and find the root cause of your disease.

Causes of Genetic Diseases

Genetics basics were proposed by Mendel and as such, the way to the discovery of many unknown diseases was opened. Though the breakthrough experiments were conducted on garden peas but it applies well to Homo Sapiens also. Recalling some secondary level science, a person has 46 chromosomes which are divided into 23 pairs. These chromosomes contain a material called DNA. This is the carrier of inheritance of features in the progeny. When any mutation or a modification in this human genome happens, it results in a genetic disease. The mutation can be minor as well as major like absence of a complete set or a part of any pair of chromosome. Genetic diseases are usually hereditary and are transferred form the parents to their off springs.

Types of Genetic Diseases

Genetic diseases are caused by abnormalities in the genes or the chromosomes of an individual person. These diseases are inherited from parents to children. Recessive genetic disorders can develop due to favorable environmental or lifestyle conditions. If we talk of types of genetic diseases, these can be single gene, multifactorial, chromosome abnormality or a mitochondrial inheritance. Single gene disorder takes place in one gene only when the protein arrangement is missing or altered. Common examples include cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anemia. Single gene genetic disorder is further classified into autosomal recessive and autosomal dominant disorders.
