Career Portfolio - Get What You Want by Sharing What You've Done

Would you like a simple way to impress others with who you are and what you can do? Thats exactly what you get when you create and use a Career Portfolio, it's a scrapbook that you have compiled that showcases your experiences.

If someone were to ask you what you did for a living what would you say? I'm a Supervisor for the Widget Corporation, well, that's true right? Yes, but you are so much more than that, unfortunately you aren't sharing it?

What I mean by this is, does saying you're a Supervisor, a Welder or Teacher explain that last year your department made 1.2 million dollars and shows how you did it? Does it share the story that as a Supervisor you led and launched a new product for mass- production? Does it show the crane you built from scratch?

You could tell others that you lead a welding team and built a 17 ton Multi-Arm Robot in your resume. You could tell them about it with words and hand gestures, but pictures tell a thousand words, why not use pictures to help tell your story.

Ask yourself, if you have at least a few experiences that you have accomplished that makes you proud. Maybe they were challenges that you overcame, or new projects that you were apart of. If you answered yes than ask yourself if you took any pictures? Did you get testimonials from others that describe your contribution? Did you make notes about the details and have them typed out so that you could share your experience as it actually happened? Did you think to collect the names of the people on the team with contact information? Did you write an article for your industries magazine and put a copy in your Portfolio? These are just a few of the contents within a Career Portfolio that you could use to enhance new job offers, use as leverage for pay raises, or network as a business owner.

There is absolutely no better way to showcase you expertise, value, professionalism, and Productivity than to create and share with others your Portfolio.

The most often overlooked way to make more money is the failure to create ways to enhance your value, begin by first being able to describe why you believe you're valuable. And than be prepared to back it up with a comprehensive Career Portfolio that will make people say WOW that's impressive!
