There are several tests that can be done to help to determine if a person is allergic to a certain item or food. Many of these test are easy to perform and can help in detecting a problem long before there is a serious problem with a person. There are usually three different test that can be done to determine if a person is allergic to a particular item. These test usually involve a person having a little of the item placed on the skin or slightly underneath the skin to tell if a reaction occurs. The first of these test is called a Skin Prick Test. This test is performed by the doctor placing a drop of a possible allergen on the skin, The doctor will then perform a series of scratches or needle pricks in an effort to allow the possible allergen to enter the skin and see if a reaction occurs.
Anti allergy drugs are sometimes called mast cell stabilizers and they nip the allergic reaction in the bud by damping down the activity of the mast cells. This medication can control hay fever eyes and a runny nose, as well as being good for asthma. It is usually taken as eye drops or a nasal spray. Itchy, red and inflamed eyes can be soothed with sodium chromo gyrate eye drops. A new drug, lode amide, acts in a similar way. Steroids work in much the same way as drugs for asthma by preventing inflammation. Used in a nasal spray they reduce inflammation in the lining of the nose and so prevent a runny nose, a blocked nose and sneezing. They can also help prevent red and itchy eyes.
The aim of immunotherapy is to desensitize you to the substances that trigger your allergy. The technique was introduced at the beginning of the 20th century and works roughly in the same way as a vaccine. You are given a minute amount of an offending substance and over a period of time you gradually build up a resistance to it, so that after several treatments you are not allergic to it any more. Also known as hypo sensitization, incremental desensitization gradually builds up your tolerance to a particular allergen by using progressively higher concentrations until a level is reached that will give you protection but will no longer cause any allergic symptoms.
This is a technique in which an enzyme called beta glucose is added to a weak solution of the allergens that trigger your attacks. The solution varies according to how severe your allergy is. There are two standard forms of treatment, it can be injected into the skin of the forearm or administered by the cup method. In the cup method, a small area of the forearm or thigh is scratched to remove the water proof later of skin and the fluid is held over the scar for twenty four hours by means of a small plastic cup, fixed firmly to the skin. Treatment continues until you are no longer allergic to whatever it is that triggers your attacks. Beta glucose is contained in every cell of the body, and EPD practitioners, all of whom are medically qualified, say this makes the body accept the desensitization fluid as a friend and create new cells that do not react to the allergen.
There is no conventional cure for skin allergies. However, they can be brought under control and over time they may disappear themselves. You can often make skin allergies clear up simply by avoiding whatever irritates the skin, whether harsh detergents or perfumed soap or wearing wool or latex. A number of treatments improve dry skin, making it less itchy and reducing inflammation, so there are lots of things you can do to make eczema easier to live with. Your doctor will offer advice about how to avoid allergies, but you may also be given a steroid cream, preparations containing coal tar, antihistamines and antibiotics. If the treatment you have been given fails to work for you, do not use more and more of it.
Although it is not that easy to prevent pollen allergy, which causes people to sneeze, there are still possible ways on how to avoid having hay fever. First, you need to find out what really caused you this allergy because you might not be aware that exposing to places with a lot of trees, grasses or weeds can make you affected with it. At home you need to closed the windows and avoid using fans because pollens can easily enter inside the house. If possible use air condition and make sure to replace the filter frequently to prevent pollens or other dust components. If you have pets always wash them properly especially if they are always staying outside because pollens tangle in their furs and make sure to keep them out of the rooms and fixtures if this happen.
